Crimson Desert PS5 Pro version uses PSSR, PC install size clocks in at 121 GB

Pearl Abyss is gearing up for launch, and a handful of technical details have surfaced just days ahead of release – covering the PS5 Pro version's rendering features, PC install size, and achievement count.

In a PlayStation Blog preview, contributor Phil Hornshaw outlined how Pearl Abyss optimized the game for Sony's hardware. The studio implemented several rendering techniques on PS5 to preserve visual detail across the game's large-scale environments.

"Pearl Abyss also told me it optimized Crimson Desert for the PS5 through a number of features to help maintain all that detail at its large scale, making use of Geometry Shader Oversubscription and NGG Culling to render lots of elements without losing detail."

PS5 Pro owners get additional perks. The enhanced console takes advantage of the updated PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which enables 4K resolution at higher frame rates. "On PS5 Pro, the recent upgrade to PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) makes it possible for Crimson Desert to hit 4K resolutions at higher frame rates, and its raytracing capabilities make lighting effects more realistic and natural."

On the install size front, a Reddit user claiming early access to the Steam review build put the PC version at around 121 GB. The same person noted the game will include 34 achievements.

Further details are under embargo until March 18, with the full release set for March 19 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
