Demo for The Eternal Life of Goldman is out now on Steam

Weappy Studio, the team behind the This Is the Police series, has released a demo for its upcoming platformer The Eternal Life of Goldman, available now on Steam. The demo runs about 90 minutes and covers the opening section of the game, which is set to launch on February 19, 2026.

The demo trailer alone is worth a look – the protagonist leaps across vividly illustrated environments, completes various tasks, and faces off against enemies. Early reception has been strong, with 86% positive ratings from players.

The game is a hand-drawn adventure platformer built using traditional frame-by-frame animation. The story sends players to a mysterious Archipelago on a mission to kill a divine being known as the Deity – a creature everyone talks about but no one has actually seen. Getting there means exploring islands filled with stark contrasts, tragic histories, and eccentric characters.

Every frame in the game was drawn and animated by hand, with no shortcuts taken. According to Weappy Studio, The Eternal Life of Goldman has no two identical rooms or repeated landscapes – every location, object, and character was crafted down to the last detail. The studio wanted to recreate that feeling of seeing a colorful 16-bit platformer for the first time as a kid.

Gameplay revolves around upgrading the protagonist's cane with new parts and unlocking abilities to reach hidden corners of the Archipelago. Weappy says the game deliberately leaves behind tired genre conventions, pulling the best elements from sidescrollers across different styles and eras while cutting out anything tedious or frustrating.

The Eternal Life of Goldman demands precision from players, but leans on improvisation and quick thinking rather than memorizing rigid action sequences. The full game is planned for PC and all current-gen consoles.
