Warp to Sector One is a deep space trading game inspired by 80s sci-fi computer aesthetics

Indie studio hextor.Games is working on its debut game Warp to Sector One – a deep space trading game inspired by the aesthetics of 80s sci-fi films and the classic text-based game Trade Wars 2002.

CRT screen curvature, wireframe graphics, ALL CAPS TEXT, and a command-line interface all come together to recreate the look and feel of those iconic computer panels from old sci-fi blockbusters.

Every session starts the same way: an empty cargo hold, a nearly depleted fuel tank, and a procedurally generated galaxy of 2,000 sectors. What happens next is entirely up to the player. The economy runs on five trade zones with dynamic pricing, market fatigue, distance bonuses, and risk premiums.

Every 2,000 turns, the galaxy shifts – Epoch Events like Pirate Uprisings, Trade Booms, or Faction Wars completely reshape the balance of power.

The game offers five career paths, each with unique bonuses and its own win conditions:

  • Trader – corner the markets and become a wealthy space mogul

  • Warrior – destroy pirates and eventually face the Pirate Alliance

  • Explorer – chart 95% of the galaxy

  • Diplomat – build alliances with all ten alien factions

  • Settler – establish 25 colonies on frontier planets

Colonies come in four types: Mining, Agricultural, Manufacturing, and Fortress – the last of which lets players deploy fighter squadrons for territorial defense.

Combat comes in two modes. Basic is designed for quick skirmishes, while Advanced is a full tactical system with battle phases, stance choices, a momentum meter, and mid-fight events that can shift the outcome on the fly.

Fleets include 11 ship classes – from the nimble Fast Courier to the Dreadnought – and can grow to 25 vessels at the maximum Admiral rank. Hired captains operate autonomously, capable of guarding sectors, patrolling routes, or trading independently.

A release date for Warp to Sector One hasn't been announced yet, but there's already a Steam page.
