Solo developer is building Temple of Eternal Suffering – a grim ARPG roguelite about escaping an ever-shifting dungeon
A Steam page has gone live for the game Temple of Eternal Suffering – a dark action roguelite set in a grimdark sci-fi world, built entirely by a single developer, and the level of polish is genuinely impressive.
The premise puts you in the role of a prisoner inside the Temple – no memories, no answers, just an overwhelming urge to get out. The only way forward is down. The developer recently confirmed that a mandatory dodge roll is in the game, along with a dedicated slide mechanic for one of the playable characters, the Witch.
Gameplay revolves around a hybrid skill and level-based combat system. Each run has you collecting temporary upgrades and character implants (skills) that shape your build around a specific playstyle. Dungeons blend procedurally generated and handcrafted layouts, and each guardian boss demands a thoughtful approach – though the developer notes that brute force remains a perfectly valid option.
Among the announced features:
multiple playable characters, each with a distinct class
a full inventory and stash system, with items transferable between characters
visual progression – every piece of armor and every weapon changes how your character looks, with rarer and more exotic gear appearing the deeper you go
no microtransactions
The game is set to release in 2027.
