A fan spotted a hidden aiming animation detail that perfectly defines Grace and Leon in Resident Evil Requiem
A Resident Evil Requiem fan caught an easy-to-miss detail in the aiming animations of the game's two protagonists, spotted while comparing footage from Capcom's January showcase. Looking at clips of Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy facing the same zombie in the same corridor, Reddit user chainsawdoctor01 pointed out a telling contrast – Grace's hands visibly tremble while aiming, while Leon's are completely still.
The detail is clearly intentional and does real character work. Grace is an FBI analyst with only basic firearms training, facing bioweapons for the first time in her life. The trembling hands convey not just fear, but the physical response of someone who has never had to pull a trigger under genuine threat.
Leon, on the other hand, survived Raccoon City, Spain, and countless operations across two decades – at this point he's essentially a one-man bioweapon disposal unit. As one commenter put it: "This is the worst day of Grace's life, but just another weekday for Leon."
Fans quickly drew parallels to other entries in the series. In Resident Evil 7, Ethan's weapon handling animations are clumsy and unpracticed – exactly what you'd expect from someone with no combat background.
In Resident Evil Village, those same animations become noticeably more confident and tactical, which the game explains early on – Ethan underwent military training with Chris Redfield between the two games. A similar logic applies to the difference in Leon's reticle snap speed between the RE2 and RE4 remakes, where it's significantly faster in the latter, reflecting years of accumulated experience.
Notably, Grace's shaking hands aren't just a starting-point character trait. Journalists who received early access to Resident Evil Requiem noted that her hands gradually steady as players progress through her sections, visually tracking the growth of her confidence and skill.
Game director Koshi Nakanishi previously stated that Grace was deliberately designed to reflect how an ordinary person would realistically respond to the horrors unfolding around her.
Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
