Surreal voxel survival game Lucid Blocks reveals new gameplay

Indie developer Eric Alfaro unveiled fresh gameplay footage of Lucid Blocks – a first-person voxel action-adventure game blending survival and crafting mechanics.

Lucid Blocks invites players to explore liminal spaces filled with surreal landscapes and bizarre creatures. The world generates procedurally and extends infinitely both horizontally and vertically – featuring cities made of plastic, serene grass fields, and massive abandoned warehouses.

Enemies include mannequins, gelatinous beings, higher-dimensional entities, and colossal spiders. The arsenal features grappling hooks, bombs, blades, and more exotic gear like bee gliders and haze hands. The crafting system, called apotheosis, allows unrestricted item fusion without limitations.

The voxel sandbox enables building anything using dozens of blocks and dynamic lighting. Players can also summon friendly creatures – bubblebears, kodama, and fruit femmes – and share creations with other players.

The trailer sparked mixed reactions within the community. Some commenters compare the game to Minecraft mods, while others see references to cult classics LSD: Dream Emulator and Hylics. Several gamers noted that voxel games remain underappreciated due to associations with mobile Minecraft clones, despite the genre holding massive untapped potential.

Lucid Blocks launches in 2026, with the game's Steam page already live.
