Animated series Terminator Zero will not continue

Netflix officially canceled the continuation of animated series Terminator Zero. Director Mattson Tomlin confirmed this in a post on X, explaining the streaming giant's decision.

According to Tomlin, despite "tremendous critical and audience reception", the main issue was insufficient viewership. The series simply didn't attract enough viewers, which led to its closure – and production took considerable time and money.

The director also shared his plans for developing the story. Tomlin intended to explore the Future War in greater depth not only in a second season, but also in a third. However, viewers will never see these plans realized – the series has been permanently canceled. Tomlin also mentioned that Netflix offered him the option to conclude the show with two or three episodes, but he declined, as he didn't see the point.

He ended by thanking the fans:

It's amazing to wake up and see how much people love Terminator Zero. It wasn't easy to take on a franchise with such a legacy of negative experiences and find a way to reconnect with fans and take it to a new level.

I'm glad we succeeded for many of you. Hopefully, I'll return to this world someday.

The first season of Terminator Zero premiered on Netflix in 2024.
