Ember Lab announced Kena sequel with alchemy and new elemental companions
Ember Lab revealed Kena: Scars of Kosmora – the sequel to adventure game Kena: Bridge of Spirits. The new game launches on PC and PS5 in 2026 in partnership with PlayStation Studios.
After releasing the first game, the team spent time searching for a concept that would preserve the soul of the original while showing the evolution of their ideas. The developers decided to return to Kena's world, but present her in a new light – as an experienced Spirit Guide capable of helping not only the dead, but the living as well.
In Scars of Kosmora, Kena travels to the mysterious island of Kosmora seeking answers about the affliction that has plagued her since birth. The island is home to distinct cultures and regions, with secrets of a tragic past buried beneath its surface. There, the heroine encounters a powerful spirit that fractures her staff – the primary tool of any Spirit Guide. Kena's staff didn't just symbolize her calling, it was keeping her alive. Now, to survive, she must master Kosmora's forgotten form of Spirit Guiding, one based on alchemy and elemental manipulation.
Elemental spirit companions take center stage in gameplay. These creatures travel alongside Kena, evolve, and unlock new abilities as their bond with the heroine deepens. Each spirit is tied to a specific element and connected to other spirits throughout the world. The developers have only shown one companion so far, keeping the rest secret until future announcements.
The combat system received significant expansion. Ember Lab added elemental gameplay to bring strategic depth to battles against Kosmora's threats. Players will need to use new combat skills, elemental infusions, and spirit companion abilities to overcome enemies and epic bosses. The team wants to show Kena as a more experienced and capable character while preserving the cleansing of corrupted souls from the original.
The developers are holding back on detailed story reveals to avoid spoiling the experience. Ember Lab put tremendous effort into the narrative component and creating an emotional adventure for both Bridge of Spirits fans and newcomers to Kena's world.
Partnership with PlayStation Studios allowed the studio to create a larger world with carefully designed regions, deliberate progression, and a strong sense of adventure. The team is grateful for the reception to the first game and intends to meet fan expectations by offering everything they loved about the original and more.
