No Man's Sky player witnesses AFK character kidnapping right off the station
The No Man's Sky community discovered a new way to entertain themselves in multiplayer – kidnapping AFK players right off the Anomaly station. One Reddit user captured video of another traveler methodically dragging an idle character into their freighter before immediately departing in an unknown direction, leaving the witness baffled.
The mechanics turned out to be painfully simple. When a player steps away from their computer on the station, anyone can slowly push them inside a freighter and take off. Unlike expected behavior, the passenger doesn't fall through the ship when leaving the Anomaly, but travels with the kidnapper to another star system. The returning player finds themselves on an unknown planet, often tens of thousands of light-years from their previous location.
As the community wisely noted – nature is truly wondrous. Someone joked about "Gekstein Island" and slave farms collecting refuse on a moon in the Vykeen system. Others suggested the abductee was simply fed herbal snacks and dropped on a planet with pink bubbles.
Stories from actual victims proved unexpectedly positive. One player recounted how their kidnapper offered food before leaving them on a toxic planet. Another accidentally ended up on a freighter while inspecting someone's ship and witnessed a journey to an unknown system filled with other players' bases. A third faced an actual chase – another player persistently tried to grab them with their ship and drag them away until the victim disabled multiplayer.
Most players believe that 95% of the time kidnappers deliver victims to interesting or safe locations, 4% to genuinely cool places, and only 1% are actual griefers. One player even feels grateful to their abductor – after being dragged into a freighter and abandoned, a random passerby asked why they were standing in a strange pose near the landing pad, sparking a friendship.
However, if you don't find humor in this, simply reload your save and you'll be back on the Anomaly in 10 seconds. Or summon your freighter, fly to the nearest space station and use the teleporter. But many prefer to view kidnapping as just another experience in the strange universe of No Man's Sky.
