Half Sword launches on Steam as brutal medieval combat simulator
Rubric Games released Half Sword into early access on Steam. The game encountered technical issues in the first hours after launch, but developers quickly released a hotfix.
The combat system is built on historical fencing research and real swordplay experience. Developers meticulously recreated medieval sword mechanics, requiring players to master the nuances of period combat and learn to wield various weapons. All animations and movements are physically realistic – every action carries weight and consequences.
The game features an extensive collection of historically accurate armor and weaponry. Players earn money through combat, purchase equipment, reinforce armor, and forge weapons tailored to their fighting style. Those confident in victory can bet on themselves to accelerate progress and earn more gold.
However, Half Sword offers no forgiveness for mistakes. Developers warn this is a realistic simulator where characters die permanently. The studio even employs a "Chief Blood Officer" because the game contains extremely graphic content – skull crushing, limb severing, exposed internal organs, and shocking amounts of blood. Violence levels depend on the weapons and armor chosen by combatants.
A demo of Half Sword is available on Steam. The project will exit early access in approximately 6-12 months.
