Fan brings Anthem back to life on local servers
While former BioWare producer Mark Darrah presented a whole pitch on how EA could save Anthem relatively cheaply, fans are already finding ways to keep the game operational despite server shutdown. One skilled enthusiast already managed to launch it on a peer-to-peer server.
YouTuber And799 published a video launching the game on local servers. Though some online functions like profile viewing don't work, And799 successfully ran the game with two players in matchmaking. According to the video description, this is merely "research" and an "experiment," not a sign of Anthem's revival. But the fact that a playable version is possible offers hope – even if EA and BioWare aren't managing it themselves.
If this is already achievable just days after Anthem's closure, fan preservation efforts could bear fruit in coming months. Even if you didn't enjoy Anthem or believed BioWare shouldn't have made it, many feel the game shouldn't vanish without a trace – people paid money for it, and hundreds of developers spent years working on it. Fans can bring back the unfinished campaign, though how many online features they can restore remains unclear.
Anthem's shutdown occurred roughly a year after BioWare significantly reduced staff following Dragon Age: The Veilguard's launch. Remaining developers are working on the new Mass Effect.
