Terraria 1.4.5 update finally gets release date after three years in development
The massive Terraria 1.4.5 update, which has been in development for three years, finally has a release date. The patch launches January 27 and will completely transform the game with an enormous list of new features and changes.
Originally planned for 2023, the 1.4.5 update kept growing and growing. While the patch will likely mark the final stage of major development for Re-Logic's sandbox, it adds everything from NPC housing changes to zippy remote-controlled cars for quick traversal across the world.
As head of business strategy Ted Murphy confirmed on Re-Logic's official forum, the team had to resubmit several elements, pushing the release further than expected. The launch was initially planned for late December or early January, but the delay isn't critical – only 13 days remain until release.
The list of additions is enormous: the aforementioned remote-controlled cars and NPC changes, new weapons, an "Axearang" for chopping trees, roller skates, and a pufferfish pet. The list of other features goes on endlessly – there's something for everyone.
The update will also lay the groundwork for crossplay – the most requested feature. The ability to unite players from consoles, desktops, and mobile devices will arrive after all hotfixes for version 1.4.5 are released.
