Czech retailer accidentally reveals Steam Machine prices – starting at $950 for base model
Valve announced new Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller last year, which became one of the biggest announcements of the year. Gamers are eagerly awaiting the new mini-PC, but the main question remains – how much will the Steam Machine cost?
Official prices haven't been announced yet, but a leak from a Czech retailer has given the first indication of the new gaming device's cost. Redditor chusskaptaan discovered a Steam Machine page on Czech retailer Smarty.cz's website featuring two models.
The first is a 512 GB version, which according to the source code costs 19,826 crowns, approximately $950. The second 2 TB model is listed at 22,305 crowns, or about $1,070.
Another user on X checked Smarty.cz's source code and went further by examining Alza – another major Czech retailer. Alza's Steam Machine page revealed a similar pricing structure. User Hajedan added that the actual price from Valve will likely be lower than the converted estimates, as Alza and Smarty.cz include their own markups.
These prices remain speculative, and exact figures will be clear after Valve's official announcement. However, the leaks provide an idea of what consumers might expect to pay for the Steam Machine.
Valve has clarified that it won't subsidize the price of the new device, despite the memory crisis in the industry. Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais stated:
No, it's more in line with what you might expect from the current PC market. Obviously, our goal is for it to be a good deal at that level of performance. And then you have features that are actually really hard to build if you are making your own gaming PC from parts. Things like the small form factor, the noise level that we achieved, or lack thereof, is really impressive and we are excited that people are going to find out how quiet this thing is.
While content creators like LinusTechTips have attempted to estimate the new console's cost and suggested moderate pricing, reality may prove different. That said, paying slightly over $1,000 for the Steam Machine's capabilities could be considered a good deal, given the freedom of choice compared to traditional consoles or the cost of building your own PC.
Recent reports indicate a spring 2026 release, so official pricing should be revealed soon.
