No Man's Sky player becomes space Moses – turning neutron cannon into tsunami generator
One No Man's Sky player discovered a spectacular way to interact with the water physics – firing the Neutron Cannon into water creates massive waves capable of turning into a real tsunami. Reddit user Dogmatic_Warfarer97 demonstrated the discovery on video, quickly earning the nickname "Moses."
The ability to create such waves appeared thanks to the Worlds Part II update. The patch significantly reworked water physics, adding reflections of clouds, nebulae, and other planets on the water surface, improved subsurface light scattering, and dynamic wave simulation.
When firing the Neutron Cannon into any body of water, a massive water eruption occurs, the scale of which depends on the weapon's charge time. If enough charges are released with a certain rhythm, the resulting waves can synchronize and turn into absurdly tall tidal waves. The effect works with Autophage Staff – specialized multi-tool with a high damage bonus that are obtained through the They Who Returned questline.
Community reactions to the discovery were mostly humorous, but many became interested in how to get such a staff to experiment with the waves themselves. One commenter honestly admitted that the video prompted them to spend another 150 hours or so in NMS.
If you want to try this experiment note that the generated waves pose no danger to the player – judging by the video, they move away from the shore and looks more likea a visual effect and not a wall of water ready to destroy.
To obtain an Autophage Staff, players need to complete the main storyline The Purge and start the They Who Returned quest chain on planets marked with "dissonance."
