A No Man's Sky player built an entire city on top of their freighter
No Man's Sky community member has shown off a jaw-dropping build – a fully realized city constructed right on the upper deck of a freighter. The post quickly gathered hundreds of comments and became one of the most talked-about topics among fans.
The player known as AcoupleofIrishfolk put together a dense urban layout complete with walkways, neon signs, and decorative clutter that gives the whole thing the feel of a cyberpunk megacity. Many players immediately drew comparisons to Night City from Cyberpunk 2077 – the resemblance is hard to argue with.
The building process turned out to be simpler than it sounds. The creator explained that you just need to step out through the back door of the freighter bridge, open the build menu, and start placing paths and structures. For the cramped city street effect, open walkways and connectors from the freighter parts menu were used, then generously decorated with signs and props from the Autophage settlement parts kit.
The entire build was done in creative mode with resource costs disabled. According to the creator, the city took around two hours to complete – with no prior plan, just pure improvisation.
One important caveat: the city is only visible when you're actually on the freighter deck. When the ship is called in from space, the structure doesn't render, and the freighter looks like any standard model of its type.
Not everyone was fully convinced. Player IsF_Zoey pointed to a mod on Nexus Mods that, in their view, may have served as the foundation for the build. Other players pushed back, pointing out that the game already provides everything needed – external walkways, ladders, platforms, and decorative elements are all available in the standard freighter build menu.
The NPC situation on the outer decks sparked its own thread. The creator confirmed that crew members do in fact walk outside and move between functional rooms like refiners and scanners, which gives the whole structure a sense of being lived in.
It's another reminder of how far No Man's Sky has come from its rocky 2016 launch. The freighter building system – covering interior rooms, exterior structures, mobile ship storage, and NPC crew – has turned these vessels into full-blown flying bases with near-limitless creative potential.
