Grogu still won't speak in The Mandalorian & Grogu

One of the biggest ongoing mysteries in Star Wars revolves around the small green creature the internet once dubbed Baby Yoda. Since Grogu first appeared in The Mandalorian, fans have theorized endlessly about his past, his connection to the Force, and when – if ever – he might finally say something. The answer, it turns out, is: not anytime soon.

Former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed in an interview with Variety that Grogu will remain silent in the upcoming theatrical film The Mandalorian & Grogu.

"Another perfect example of a character that has to emote and you have to feel connected to, and he never speaks a word."

So anyone hoping to hear Grogu string together words in scrambled Yoda-style syntax – just in a tiny baby voice – will have to keep waiting. His silence has always been a core part of his appeal, with audiences growing attached purely through expressions and actions rather than dialogue.

The film follows a new adventure for Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, with Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White joining the cast – making it one of the most high-profile entries in the franchise.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22.
