World of Warcraft players are getting banned on Pinterest because of the new housing feature

World of Warcraft is finally getting its long-awaited housing system with the Midnight expansion, launching in early March – though players with early access were already able to try it ahead of the official release. The celebration, however, has been overshadowed by an unexpected problem tied to a Pinterest integration.

Blizzard added a special Pin-o-Matic Camera to the game that lets players upload in-game screenshots directly to Pinterest, rewarding them with a Feat of Strength achievement and the camera itself as an in-game toy.

The idea made sense on paper – Pinterest is commonly used for aesthetic inspiration, and Blizzard even runs an official World of Warcraft account on the platform featuring curated housing themes.

In practice, things went sideways fast. Players started reporting that their Pinterest accounts were getting banned after linking them to World of Warcraft and posting screenshots. Complaints flooded a Reddit thread and the official community forums.

One user said they lost a Pinterest account they'd had for over ten years – with the only content ever posted being "one single picture" of their house in World of Warcraft. Another described an even more baffling situation:

"I made an entirely new account that was specific for my WoW housing, and they banned all three of my accounts."

Many affected players have submitted appeals to recover their accounts, so far without success. The exact cause of the bans is still unclear. One user speculated that Pinterest may have "forgotten to notify their third-party spam filter service of the change," though that hasn't been confirmed.

After the wave of complaints, Blizzard responded, saying they're aware of the issue and have reached out to Pinterest.
