Fan developer shares Sony cease-and-desist letter over Bloodborne fan remake

In the wake of news about Bluepoint Games' closure, another unpleasant episode tied to Bloodborne has surfaced. French indie developer Maxime Foulquier published a cease-and-desist letter that Sony sent him back in March 2025.

The trigger was Foulquier's Twitter announcement about a fan game called Bloodborne Top Down Arena – his second project inspired by FromSoftware's 2015 title. The video from the original post was removed "at the request of the copyright holder," though some clips of the game are still available on his profile.

The developer stayed quiet about the situation for nearly a year, but the closure of Bluepoint Games was apparently the last straw.

Foulquier wrote:

"I prefer to talk about this now as my disappointment is immense. The disappearance of Bluepoint is a colossal loss for the industry and for the dream of a Bloodborne remake. Why do you make such absurd decisions, Sony?"

Bluepoint Games, closed "following a recent business review" according to a Sony spokesperson, was widely considered the top candidate to develop an official Bloodborne remake – the studio had previously delivered modern versions of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls.

Foulquier, however, isn't stopping. Everything he built for Bloodborne Top Down Arena is being redirected into a new standalone title, which doesn't have a name yet.

A new game inspired by Bloodborne

In one post, the developer described it as "a tribute to Bloodborne set in a medical gothic world inspired by Paris."

It's not entirely clear what "medical gothic world" means, but it does sound intriguing.
