Resident Evil Requiem will be the largest game in the series by download size – over 72 GB on PS5
The PlayStation Game Size account revealed the download size for Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 – the game will require 72.88 GB of disk space, making it the heaviest entry in the franchise's history.
For comparison, the Resident Evil 4 remake weighed around 58 GB at launch (later growing to 67 GB with the Separate Ways DLC), Resident Evil 2 Remake required 48 GB, and Resident Evil Village took up just 27 GB at release. The new installment is nearly three times larger than the previous original title in the series.
Preloading for PS5 owners begins February 25, two days before the official release. The game launches at midnight on February 27 local time. Information about preloading for Steam and Xbox has not yet been officially confirmed.
The substantial file size is explained by several factors. First, the game features a story with two completely different protagonists – FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and agent Leon Kennedy, between whom players will switch throughout the narrative. Second, developers are utilizing enhanced 4K textures and ray tracing. According to insider Dusk Golem, a playthrough will take 16 to 20 hours – roughly the same as the Resident Evil 4 remake.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version will require only 29.2 GB – developers clearly compressed resources more aggressively for the portable console.
Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
