New Witcher 3 DLC may be set near Velen rather than Zerrikania, rumor suggests
Rumors about a mysterious third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt keep surfacing online – and at this rate, the hype surrounding it might start rivaling that of Half-Life 2 Episode 3. CD Projekt RED has yet to confirm anything despite the ongoing speculation. While fans theorize about a possible tie-in with The Witcher 4 or an exotic Zerrikanian setting, UV o grach, former editor-in-chief of Gry-Online, has hinted that the actual location could be something quite different.
During a January livestream, o grach fielded viewer questions about the DLC and suggested the new region may be closer to familiar territory than most expect. While he had previously confirmed hearing about new content in development, he stopped short of endorsing the Zerrikania rumors. Instead, the expansion could take place near Velen, building on the existing region – which fits neatly with his earlier stream discussing asset reuse in world-building.
It's worth noting that IGN Poland, which first reported on the dragon-obsessed region, has since acknowledged that plans may have changed. Both that outlet and PPE, which corroborated the DLC's existence, received their initial information years ago, and a lot can shift during development over that kind of timeframe.
According to the rumors, a May release is on the table, leaving only a few months until the supposed announcement window. The next move belongs to CD Projekt RED, and fans can do little but wait for an official word.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PC and consoles.
