Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 director confirms final development phase – multiplatform release won't compromise graphics
Naoki Hamaguchi, game director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, confirmed that development of the trilogy's finale is in its final push phase and progressing almost exactly on schedule. In an interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi added that fans won't have to wait much longer for Square Enix to share more details about the concluding game in the series.
Hamaguchi noted that the project is moving according to the milestones established at the beginning of the trilogy's development.
The game is already in a playable state, and right now, we're in the final push phase, refining and building up the experience.
The official title for Part 3 hasn't been revealed yet, though creative director Tetsuya Nomura has already decided on a name. Development continues on a customized version of Unreal Engine 4 due to the team's extensive experience with this engine.
Addressing fan concerns about graphical quality in light of the multiplatform release, Hamaguchi assured that launching on all platforms won't compromise the visual presentation. The team considers each platform's CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage capabilities, optimizing the game individually for each system. Even the more modest specifications of Xbox Series S won't create limitations for other consoles with higher capacities.
Hamaguchi confirmed that Square Enix's philosophy of delivering the highest graphical quality on PC won't change for Part 3. Game assets are created first for high-end PCs, then adapted for consoles.
We're at the stage where the quality improves day by day, and each time we play it, the scenery feels different, so it's genuinely exciting.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on Switch 2 and Xbox Series on June 3. Following the game's surprise appearance at the February 5 Nintendo Direct, fans are wondering when Part 3 will be announced – Summer Game Fest on June 5 could provide a fitting platform for unveiling the trilogy's conclusion.
Both Final Fantasy 7 remakes are available on PC and consoles.
