Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 soundtrack has been spoiling the game from the very first track – intentionally

The music in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 turned out to be far more deceptive than it might seem. At a Game Developer's Conference 2026 panel, Sandfall audio lead and music designer Raphael Joffres confirmed that the very first track in the game gives away its ending before players even take their first steps through Lumiere.

"The first track spoils the whole game," Joffres said. The spoilers are there right from the start, with references to endgame bosses baked into the music. "But it's said in a way that you don't understand. You think, 'Oh OK, it's talking about... boy, this is actually talking about the endgame bosses.'"

The lyrics are shielded by a deliberate mix of French, English, and a made-up language, making them nearly impossible to decode on a first playthrough. As the story progresses, the lyrics gradually become more legible, and by the finale, some tracks are in plain English.

"That's why, at the end, you have full English tracks, but at the beginning, everything is kind of in a made up language," Joffres added.

When asked why Sandfall hid spoilers in the soundtrack at all, the answer was simple: it's designed for repeat playthroughs. Players who return to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from the beginning will hear the familiar tracks in a completely different light – already knowing the lore, they'll pick up on things that were hidden the first time around.

Essentially, these are auditory Easter eggs built directly into the main game experience.

The theory had already been floating around Reddit and covered by gaming outlets, but this marks the first official confirmation from Sandfall Interactive themselves.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
