Steam Deck goes out of stock due to global memory shortage

Valve confirmed the reason why Steam Deck has been nearly impossible to buy in recent weeks. A notice appeared on the official store page explaining the shortage situation.

Note: Steam Deck OLED may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. Steam Deck LCD 256GB is no longer in production, and once sold out, will no longer be available.

Currently, all three console variants are unavailable for order in the store, including refurbished models. For those wanting to purchase Valve's handheld device right now, the only option remains the second-hand market.

The availability issues emerged amid Valve's inability to finalize pricing for the upcoming Steam Machine. Previously, Valve stated they planned to announce specific prices and launch dates by now, but the market situation forced the company to "revisit plans".

"When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components [memory and storage] mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame)."

Valve is far from the only one affected by the crisis. According to recent reports, Sony could push the PlayStation 6 launch until 2029, although the console was initially planned for next year. Nintendo, which previously stated Switch 2 wouldn't see an immediate price increase after release, may now reconsider that decision – analysts predicted console price hikes in 2026.
