Colorblind solo developer's bloody platformer Necrowave suddenly goes viral on social media
An indie developer who is colorblind is working on an original 2D platformer Necrowave, using a color palette that appears beautiful to him. The game primarily features various shades of cyan and blue.
A tweet about the project suddenly went viral. The video showcasing the game racked up 2.2 million views and 113 thousand likes on X. In the footage, the developer discusses which games inspired him to create the project, while demonstrating some rather bloody gameplay.
The game tells the emotional story of a zombie with his butt stuck in a microwave. The project is built around a combat system emphasizing critical thinking, where each enemy represents a unique puzzle to solve. The developer abandoned traditional hack and slash mechanics in favor of a tactical approach – almost everything in the game dies in one hit, including the protagonist. This design choice encourages players to act cautiously and think through every move.
At the core of the project lies a dark handcrafted world filled with secrets and mysteries. All characters and enemies are fully traditionally animated. According to the creator, players will encounter unique characters that will leave an impact throughout the journey.
Boss fights demand critical thinking, while difficult challenges test combat, platforming, and analytical skills to their very limit. The protagonist gains new abilities that unlock access to different parts of the world.
Necrowave will eventually release on PC.
