Remedy remains silent on Max Payne remake due to Rockstar

Fans were hoping to hear at least a small update about the Max Payne remake from Remedy on Tuesday. However, instead of the usual information in investor documents, the studio limited itself to minimal comments during the earnings call that followed the financial report.

The studio currently has several games at different stages of development, including the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake. Acting CEO Markus Mäki responded to one investor's question by explaining that Remedy has little control over communications:

Unfortunately, the Max Payne communications are all driven by Rockstar so we are working on it hard but that's all I can say.

Based on available development information, GTA 6's delay has likely impacted the Max Payne remake's marketing and release. As of February 2025, the title had been in full production for around 18+ months – approximately 30 months by the current date. According to Remedy, this process requires about 200 employees and takes one to two years of work, followed by 6 months of beta testing.

Last week, it was revealed that Rockstar will begin marketing the latest GTA this summer. This means the publisher will be fully focused on GTA VI and won't want to divert attention to other projects, even a highly anticipated remake.

If production and testing take 2.5 years according to the studio's development process, players could be experiencing the remake around Spring 2027. Given that Control Resonant is taking priority for Remedy this year, it's possible that some resources have been reallocated from Max Payne development.

We may learn more news in the fall.
