ESRB listing may have accidentally revealed Resident Evil 5 remake

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board may have inadvertently revealed Capcom's plans for the next Resident Evil remake – an Xbox Series listing for the fifth installment has appeared on the agency's website. While the listing doesn't mention PC or PlayStation 5, the timing looks suspicious: Sony just announced a State of Play livestream for February 12. For comparison, Resident Evil 4 Remake was revealed during a State of Play in June 2022.

The ESRB page for the Xbox Series version of Resident Evil 5 contains little new information, but one element points to a full remake – the "In-Game Purchases" tag. Capcom has been actively using microtransactions at launch in recent projects. Examples include the treasure map DLC for Resident Evil 4 Remake and the controversial Portcrystal for Dragon's Dogma 2. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 5 included all previously released add-ons and launched before the studio began this practice of launch DLC.

The rating listing aligns with a post from Eva La Dare, who voiced and motion-captured Sheva Alomar in the original game. In January, the actress wrote on X:

Got a few fun things lined up for March. Stay tuned! ❤️

Curiously, insiders refuted the actress's hint, insisting that Capcom's next project after Resident Evil Requiem will be a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. The likelihood of the ESRB listing being a mistake is extremely low, so Thursday's State of Play may clarify the situation.

The next entry in the series will be Resident Evil Requiem – launching February 27 on PC and all current consoles.
