Modder creates quest for The Witcher 3 letting you play as Ciri in Kovir
Right after The Witcher 4's presentation at Game Awards 2024, modders immediately started porting the older Ciri into The Witcher 3. Now one of them has taken things further by creating a full story quest that lets you step into the role of the witcher and travel to Kovir and Poviss. The work utilizes CD Projekt's RedKIT tools.
The mod called Dawn over Kovir was created by enthusiast Fandera. Inspired by The Witcher 4's trailer, the developer crafted a short adventure that begins with Geralt of Rivia receiving a quest to meet with oneiromancer Corinne Tilly. The meeting leads to a vision of Ciri's future.
After that, players will spend 45 minutes to an hour and a half in Ciri's role, completing monster contracts in the modder's constructed version of Kovir. The project lacks voice acting, though subtitles are available. Based on the showcase video, Kovir's location resembles Skellige – unsurprising, since the mod uses assets already existing in the game.
Like many ambitious RedKIT projects, Dawn over Kovir appears fairly minimalistic in its current form. Fandera noted plans to add refined animations and voice acting in future updates.
Running the mod requires both expansions – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, plus Community Patch - Shared Imports and Custom Player Characters mods. The project could be an interesting way to pass time while waiting on rumors about additional official DLC for The Witcher 3 that CD Projekt is reportedly working on.
