Phasmophobia prepares for full release with major updates planned
Phasmophobia could celebrate its sixth early access anniversary in September, but only if Kinetic Games doesn't launch version 1.0 ahead of schedule. According to the latest roadmap, the studio plans to release the full version this year alongside a horror mechanics overhaul and lore update.
Version 1.0 will be the culmination of several major updates. Plans also include migrating to Unity 6 and overhauling the network code, which should address connection issues. The long-awaited player model overhaul arrives soon – finally making it possible to tell friends apart, as everyone currently plays as the same character.
Kinetic Games traditionally keeps details under wraps to preserve the element of surprise. For years, the developers limited themselves to vague descriptions of a "large horror overhaul of the ghost and game mechanics." Now the studio has rebranded the Horror 2.0 update as Phasmophobia 1.0.
Originally scheduled for Q4 2025, the player model overhaul was delayed to Q1 2026. The studio isn't revealing details yet, but a recent development preview showcased unique character models. The update will also add free cosmetic items for avatar customization.
Last year Phasmophobia received complete reworks of both farmhouse maps, and now it's time for the remaining haunted houses. First up is the smallest and arguably most beloved location – 6 Tanglewood Drive. The house at 13 Willow Street will be reworked later this year, while a new map will arrive somewhere in between. Kinetic promises it "will bring a new style of location to the game," but isn't sharing details.
