Bungie revealed Marathon's premium currency LUX and promises it won't buy gameplay advantages
Just ahead of launch, Marathon Bungie revealed the extraction shooter's monetization system, introducing a premium currency called LUX and assuring players that real money can't buy gameplay advantages.
On the official Marathon account, the studio confirmed that all seasonal gameplay content is free for everyone – including zones and Runner shells (playable characters).
Bungie also made clear there's no pay for power.
Premium Pass rewards are cosmetics only, and LUX can only be spent on appearance items – "not gameplay advantages."
Reward Passes don't expire, so you can pick up a previous season's pass whenever you feel like it.
Rewards inside those passes are unlocked using Silk – a currency earned exclusively through playing the game that can't be purchased with real money. Cosmetics can also be earned through the Codex, with some others available for direct purchase.
The monetization reveal came just hours before the game's launch.
