Den of Wolves developer 10 Chambers lays off dozens of employees, including studio co-founders

10 Chambers, the studio behind cooperative shooter GTFO and the upcoming extraction shooter Den of Wolves, has announced major layoffs. The cuts affected not only regular developers but also several company co-founders.

News of the layoffs surfaced on LinkedIn, where multiple former studio employees reported being let go. Around the same time, 10 Chambers co-founder Hjalmar Vikström announced his departure from the company. He said he's decided to focus on indie game development, prioritizing health, family, and the joy of creating smaller projects.

In an official statement, the studio confirmed the layoffs, explaining the decision as necessary to reevaluate its work methods to ensure Den of Wolves becomes the game it deserves to be.

"This unfortunately means a significant restructuring of the studio, impacting a large number of roles, including several of the studio's co-founders,"

the statement reads. 10 Chambers declined to discuss details of the layoffs out of respect for those affected, but emphasized that Ulf Andersson and Simon Viklund remain fully committed to Den of Wolves and will continue leading the studio.

The exact number of layoffs wasn't disclosed, but the wording of the statement suggests Andersson and Viklund are the only remaining co-founders. If true, at least six founders, including Vikström, have left the studio.

Den of Wolves was announced at The Game Awards in 2023. The game represents a significantly larger project compared to the studio's previous work – the 2021 cooperative shooter GTFO. The new game resembles the Payday series, which Andersson and Viklund worked on for its first two entries, but is set in a cyberpunk dystopia where corporations rule the world.

No release date has been announced yet.
