MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches August 6 with new X-Men team and motion comic Episode Mode

Producer Takeshi Yamanaka unveiled a new trailer for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls during the State of Play presentation for PS5 and PC. The fighting game launches August 6, 2026, with pre-orders opening February 19 at participating retailers, PlayStation Store, and PC platforms.

The trailer reveals the first team from the character introduction series – the Unbreakable X-Men. In the game's storyline, a new threat approaches Earth, forcing the X-Men to reassemble. However, following a recent battle, many core team members have been forced to withdraw from the front lines. With limited fighting strength available, Storm, guided by Charles Xavier, steps up as leader and forms a new team to confront the looming danger.

The Unbreakable X-Men consists of four fighters. Storm leads the team as a mutant who freely commands natural forces like wind and lightning. Magik is a young mutant highly skilled in both magic and her self-created sword known as the Soulsword. Wolverine, battle-scarred but unbroken, fights alongside the young X-Men with his Adamantium claws. Danger is the AI of the Danger Room training facility, once used by the X-Men, which has gained autonomy and taken physical form.

Mutants face suspicion and persecution from humanity as "others," encountering hostility at every turn. Despite this, the reborn X-Men press forward, driven by inner conflict as they strive to protect even those who persecute them from the approaching threat.

The game will feature Episode Mode, created in collaboration with Marvel Games. The narrative, world, and characters have been adapted specifically for this title, depicting Marvel heroes and villains standing against a new threat. Episode Mode blends American comics and Japanese manga into a new storytelling format for modern video games. The team collaborated with a renowned writer from the original Marvel comics to build the world and craft the scenario.

The story is presented as motion comics centered around manga by celebrated artists. Beyond visuals and sound, the mode uses DualSense controller features to deliver a tactile storytelling experience.
