Todd Howard says Brotherhood of Steel's giant robot in Fallout was planned from the start

The post-credits scene in Fallout season 2 delivered an unexpected surprise, revealing the Brotherhood of Steel's secret weapon. Franchise producer Todd Howard told The Hollywood Reporter that the appearance of the iconic robot was planned from the beginning – the only question was how and when it would happen.

In the post-credits scene of episode 8, the Brotherhood of Steel is engulfed in internal conflict until Dane delivers an important document to Elder Cleric Quintus. The blueprints for Liberty Prime Alpha – a giant combat robot designed to end wars – become the faction's trump card heading into season 3.

On the topic, Howard simply stated:

Giant robots. It was always a matter of how and when, not if.

Liberty Prime is well known to series fans from Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, which Howard worked on. In the third installment, the robot serves as a powerful ally to the player character but is later destroyed. In Fallout 4, players can rebuild the machine and, by siding with the Brotherhood of Steel, use Liberty Prime to attack the Institute.

In the games, the robot can deal massive damage, making its appearance in the series critically important for the balance of power. With such a weapon, the Brotherhood of Steel gains an advantage over Caesar's Legion, the New California Republic, and any other adversaries. The inclusion of Liberty Prime Alpha completely changes the playing field heading into season 3.

Production on season 3 begins in May.
