Baldur's Gate 3 player forgot to remove Disguise Self before romance scene and got a nightmare

Baldur's Gate 3 became famous not only for varied playstyles, memorable characters, and numerous hidden features and possibilities – diverse romance options also played their role. Each companion has a unique personality, and Larian Studios catered to varied player tastes. The game has everything: from a muscular demon lady to a goth baddie, from a domineering diva to an all-around good guy, and even a literal bear.

Some romances spark easily, others require effort, but the reward is a steamy scene after making all the right moves. However, things can go sideways if you forget about certain active spells.

Disguise Self works great for getting into places normally off-limits. However, it noticeably changes your character's appearance, and not always aesthetically. Redditor Major_incompetence forgot the spell was active when going on a date with Karlach. The results were catastrophic.

The date usually involves a romantic dinner, sweet conversation, and a steamy scene afterwards. But with Disguise Self active, the character looked completely deformed – elongated neck and excessively wide shoulders destroyed the entire atmosphere. Karlach seemingly didn't notice the problem, but immersion was ruined for the player.

Alternatively, disguising Karlach as a masc dwarf and Tav as a strong masc human is probably the most intense romance scene in the game. I don't even know if I'd be allowed to post this here no matter how hilarious.

Most spells and effects automatically wear off during such scenes, but Disguise Self somehow remains active. Further investigation required.
