Age of Empires 2 fan shared 3D models of all in-game castles for free printing

An Age of Empires 2 fan under the username andydabeast has released STL files of all castles from the iconic strategy game, created using the AI generator Meshy. The collection includes unique castles from all civilizations in the game and is available for free on the Thingiverse platform for 3D printer owners.

The gamer described the workflow: downloaded images from the AoE2 wiki, uploaded them one by one to Meshy (purchased a monthly subscription), downloaded each model, checked them in Windows 3D Viewer with auto-repair function enabled, and uploaded to Thingiverse. Six models turned out too large, so Meshlab had to be used to reduce file size.

The AI generator created not only the castle facades but also the rear sides, designing the architecture independently. The result turned out quite good, though some models have holes in the geometry where vegetation should be – for example, the Slavic castle has gaps on tower walls. The author did not perform any post-processing, so those wanting to print will need to manually refine the models.

Several enthusiasts have already tried printing the castles – one printed the Aztec castle on a Bambu Lab P1S with a 0.4 mm nozzle and got decent results. Another is printing the Malay castle. The models require significant scaling down – when importing in millimeters, they need to be scaled to at least 10% to fit on the printer bed.

Perhaps some enthusiasts will refine the models in the future.
