No Man's Sky player discovers adorably small blob creature that grows into ship-sized giant
Not every creature in No Man's Sky triggers existential dread or terror. Sometimes players encounter genuinely adorable beings – at least until they reach full size.
Reddit user Beginning_Song7693 recently shared a discovery from planet Erinop Prime in the game's subreddit, posting screenshots of a small blob-like creature they encountered while mining resources.
I finally found a creature that doesn't terrify me with its very existence.
Lil bro came up to me and asked if I had any games on my phone while I was mining, I don't know what a phone is but he's a chill guy.
The creature, scientifically designated G. Hopisrea, weighs 50.7 kg and stands just 0.6 meters tall. According to scanner data, the species exhibits social behavior with strong care for juveniles and sick individuals. They feed on massive fleshy mordite plant roots and regularly shed their skin. The creature's gender is listed as "orthogonal."
Beginning_Song7693 named their companion Morty and adopted it as a traveling companion, but other players quickly warned about the species' growth potential. One commenter posted a comparison screenshot showing an adult specimen of the same species – a massive creature dwarfing the player's ship. However, since Morty is already fully grown according to the game data, the player would need to find an infant version, which would presumably be microscopic in size.
Community suggested obtaining eggs from the creature to breed smaller or modified versions. Building a base on the planet allows players to return every 24 hours to collect fresh eggs and potentially alter offspring characteristics like color, size, or temperament through genetic modification.
The species, commonly nicknamed "blobs" or "stickers" by players, generates divided reactions within the community. Some players find the small blobs irresistibly cute and eagerly adopt them as companions. Others admitted they flee from these creatures at maximum speed, despite feeling comfortable around giant spiders with rows of teeth. One player explained:
Something about the combination of their eyes, teeth, and the scoot-scoot movement just irks the hell out of me.
Another commenter offered a darkly humorous warning about sleeping near such a pet, describing a scenario involving a "suit breach detected" notification in the middle of the night with disturbing consequences.
Beginning_Song7693 shared planetary coordinates in the screenshot for players interested in finding their own blob companion. The creatures can be displayed in terrariums aboard corvettes or at bases, though several players expressed wishes for an automatic companion deployment feature when exiting ships, similar to how certain quest companions behave in the game.
